Kellie Pickler is among "American Idol's" greatest contestants, even though she did not win the show's title. Kellie Pickler was born on June 28, 1986, to Cynthia Morton Pickler and Clyde Raymond Pickler at Stanly Memorial Hospital Albemarle. Her mother was barely 16 when she was pregnant with her. This was an extremely difficult time for Pickler as her father battled in addiction with alcohol and substances and her mother had to leave her when she was only two. Morton had custody of her for two years. Pickler said that things were not going well. "I remember that my mother as well as me in the kitchen and I remarked, 'I'd rather God took me off as I'd prefer to be dead than live here alongside you.' She pulled out a kitchen knife, placed it onto the counter top, and informed me that, "Here, you do it." I was in the fourth grade. It's a shame that I didn't do something about it. However, it left a lasting emotional scar. Pickler was given her grandparents by the court when she turned 12 years old. Morton failed to appear at the hearing. Pickler was raised with her mother and grandmother throughout her entire life. She cites them as having the greatest influence to influence her in the course of her life. On January 1, 2002, her grandmother Faye Pickler passed away from lung cancer. The family she was raised by was her grandfather. Pickler graduated from North Stanly High School in New London, North Carolina.
